A letter from Sam
Thanks for visiting Sam Reads Resumes!
You might be here because you've never written a résumé before, you're interested in changing jobs, or you just want to be ready with a stellar résumé in case opportunity knocks. Or, maybe you just wanted to see a picture of me, ha!
Whatever your reason for visiting, I hope we can work together to make you as irresistible as possible for the person who will be deciding your future. If I were you, I'd want to know that I can trust my résumé reviewer. So, here's my story.
Several years ago, I was about to graduate from Stanford University. I was in a little bit of a jam: I had no job lined up, and I had no idea how to write a compelling résumé. My application was rejected at the first companies I applied to, and so I asked a few corporate recruiters for advice. They were frank with me -- thank goodness! -- and they tore my résumé to pieces. It was just what I needed. That's when I realized that it's important not only to have solid experience behind you, but also to show it off well.
Thanks largely to my new and improved résumé, I was invited to interview at Google and eventually offered a position as a Product Marketing Manager. In my four years there, I interviewed more than 250 candidates for one of the most competitive jobs in the country: at Google there were 761,799 applicants for 3,039 jobs in 2008 alone (Fortune Magazine). I read each applicant's résumé and asked lots of questions about each one during those 250+ interviews.
Because I've learned so much about what works on a résumé, and because I believe most people shouldn't settle for jobs they don't like for very long (not even in today's economy!), I started Sam Reads Resumes. I like helping people find ways to get paid for doing what they like to do anyway.
If you think my resume help service might be useful to you, please sign up! My greatest hope is that my advice will enable you to get a job that you really do love.
Best wishes,
Sam
